Prices move in patterns, and technical analysis is the art of reading those patterns. You don't need to predict the future — just understand the probabilities and act with discipline.

Three Basic Principles

Technical analysis stands on three classic assumptions:

  1. Prices already reflect everything — news, emotions and fundamentals.
  2. Price moves in trends — up, down, or sideways.
  3. History tends to repeat itself — market behavior patterns often return.

Support and Resistance

This is the most fundamental concept:

  • Support — price level at which buying pressure tends to emerge (floor).
  • Resistance — the level at which selling pressure tends to emerge (ceiling).

When resistance is broken, it often turns into new support. This psychological level becomes a map for traders.

Moving Average (MA)

Flattens prices to clarify trend direction. Two common ones:

  • SMA (Simple Moving Average) — simple average.
  • EMA (Exponential Moving Average) — more responsive to the latest prices.

Classic signal: when the fast MA crosses the slow MA upwards (golden cross), bullish momentum strengthens.

RSI (Relative Strength Index)

Measuring the strength of momentum on a scale of 0–100:

ConditionGeneral interpretation
RSI > 70Potential overbought (overbought)
RSI < 30Potential oversold (oversold)

Combining Signals

Don't rely on one indicator. Cross confirmation increases probability:

Tren naik (harga di atas EMA-50)
+ RSI kembali dari area oversold
+ Harga memantul dari support
= Setup beli dengan probabilitas lebih baik

Conclusion

Technical analysis is not a crystal ball, but rather a decision-making framework. Practice your chart reading eye on a demo account, and let data — not emotion — guide each position.
